Mr. Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi is a UAE national, and graduated from US International University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Finance in 1978. Mr. Al Suwaidi worked at Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and Abu Dhabi Investment Company (ADIC) for about 5 years. After that, he served as general manager of Gulf International Bank (Bahrain). In late 1985, Mr. Al Suwaidi was offered the position of managing director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. In December 1991, Mr. Al Suwaidi served in the Central Bank of the UAE as governor. He was able to introduce or modernize banking regulations, and establish a well-staffed and a strong Banking Supervision/Examination Department and an Innovative IT Division to facilitate the bank business. In 2006 Mr. Al Suwaidi received his award as The Central Bank Governor of the year for the Middle East from Emerging Markets Publication. In September 2014, after almost 23 years as governor of the Central Bank of the UAE and at a time when the UAE banking system was the largest in the Arab World with high asset quality and very good capital/liquidity levels, Mr. Al Suwaidi left his position based on a government decision. In 2016, Mr. Al Suwaidi joined the Board of Directors of National Bank of Abu Dhabi as vice chairman; and in 2018, he joined UAE Banks Federation, as advisor to the Board of Directors.
