The new geopolitical environment has been having negative impact on the fight against global warming. Despite this unfavourable background, in all the sectors concerned by carbon emissions many firms are still anxious to comply with their moral obligations vis-à-vis the future of our planet.

This event organizes by the IFF, the Task Force on Carbon Pricing in Europe, and the American Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD), will explore three domains, which are drawing the attention today: renewables, green hydrogen and fossil fuels.

An introductory presentation will be made by Philippe Varin, Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), who will present the commitment of firms around the world in the fight for climate. After a general presentation on which each of them stands, the floor will be given to firms which are at the forefront of the fight for climate.

Agenda China Standard Time (UTC+8)

20:00-20:10  Welcome Remarks

20:10-20:20  Introductory Remark

On the Firms' Fight Against Global Warming

20:20-21:21  Part I - Is The Momentum for Renewables in Jeopardy?

Last year, we examined the future of renewables in the framework of the report of the IEA “COP28: Tripling Renewable Capacity Pledge”. A year later, it is clear that we are far from the trajectory, even though there exist huge discrepancies between regions. The IEA will make a presentation one year after their COP28 report, and thereafter the floor will give to firms and funds.

21:28-22:12  Part II - Staying the Course in the Oil and Gas Business

Despite all the hurdles, some companies still stand out in their decarbonisation policies: the case of TotalEnergies in Europe and ExxonMobil in the US.

22:12-23:20  PART III - The Case of Green Hydrogen

There are still great hopes in green hydrogen, even though it seems that the momentum is waning. What is going on? Is the current environment detrimental? What should be done to foster green hydrogen which is so important in the energy transition? What role for the price of carbon? These will be the questions raised in this session.

23:20-23:30  Concluding Remarks
